The presentation illustrated how proven and state-of-the-art visualization techniques (e.g., visual metaphors, “Pencil Selling”, “Virtual photography”, “Big Picture” method, …) can be used in business and research. The talk combined high-level design principles with innovative applications in business and research. It showed with various case studies from different sectors how visual methods were used to increase efficiency, engage people, organize and communicate complex or confusing information more effectively. For examples how the “Big picture”-method was used to compress the information of 100+ pages to a poster. Furthermore, the public was given some simple tricks to improve their personal flip chart sketching skills. Finally, the audience was introduced to the brand new “ETH Value Lab” - a world unique research and collaboration space with five large high-resolution multi touch displays designed firstly to create business impact through the use of interactive digital media and secondly to set new standards in sustainable planning of future cities, such as Singapore.
